When having to use two different computers to transfer things, connecting two computers is very beneficial. There are many reasons people may do this, but some are to share files and printers. You can also share your music; download a friend’s whole video library, even copy important data. A lot of HS and college students like to do this, so they can share “the goods.” Connecting computers can also be rewarding for students working on a paper together or a project together.

How to Connect:

As you should know already, computers can be connected wireless or with various wires. You can either connect computers through USB cords, Ethernet, or serial cable for null modems. The USB way has its own special cords, so make sure you check that out. A wireless connection is just as efficient and you get the same great results. As you can tell, there are a few ways to go about this. Each way of course has its pros and cons, some are faster than others. For a person who has almost every option, make sure you choose your option carefully.

1, 2, 3 Connect!

The most used and preferred way to connect more then one computer together is through an Ethernet cord. The main reason for this is because it’s faster, and almost anyone with an Internet connection nowadays has an Ethernet cord. Although not the only way, it is a very sufficient way to go. Another option is the USB cord. This option is also very reliable, although most people don’t like to use it. It is more common for people who have had mp3 players, and have the right USB cord lying around.

Wireless Connection Anyone

In the last few recent years, wireless has been gaining a lot of attention. This new way of connecting is very popular because it eliminates the use of cords and wires. This is also becoming a new and intriguing way to connect your computer and another computer together. The process to do this is not very hard, but may cost you a few bucks. Some ways to do this are Blue tooth and Wi-Fi. Another way is for both of you to have a wireless card and connect. Although usually used for laptops, infrared is also now used to connect two computers.

Wrap It Up

This should help you when deciding if connecting two computers is right for you. Just make sure if you do, it’s only with someone you trust. Letting someone you don’t know too well connect to your computer can be dangerous. Not only can they get into your files, but they can also delete files.
